How do sun rays turn into energy?
Energy from the sun can be converted to electricity using a Photovoltaic (PV) panel or a Concentrating Solar Plant. The PV panel converts the sunlight to electricity directly whilst Concentrating Plants use the heat from solar thermal collectors to heat a fluid which produces steam that is used to power a generator.
Meridian and solar energy in Australia
Meridian Energy Australia believes solar energy will play a significant role in meeting Australia’s future energy needs and has developed a market entry strategy to bring solar technology firmly into our renewable generation portfolio.
Meridian is currently investigating solar development opportunities in Australia and the Pacific.
Meridian and solar energy in the USA
Meridian Energy USA CalRENEW-1 was the first utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) solar to achieve approval from the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) to deliver zero-emission solar power directly to the transmission level grid.
CalRENEW-1 consists of more than 50,000 solar panels covering almost 50 acres; the facility generates 5 MW of zero emission, environmentally benign solar electricity. The power is being sold to PG&E under a long-term purchase agreement.
